KYB AGX dampers

Postby case » January 11th, 2005, 11:57 am

I've had the KYB AGX adjustable dampers on all four corners of my GXL now for over a year. I purchased the car with them on, and they seem to work out great. It's allowed me great range for setting up my suspension for different tracks, even for touge. The front dampers are 4-way adjustable, and the rears are 8-way.

They seemed to sustain a lot of abuse, but now I think after about two years of some hard driving, the driver's side front has a blown seal, which you can hear from inside the car when going over bumps.

I've found a number of places where you can buy a whole set for about $300. I think that these dampers are good for both AutoX and drifting applications (maybe even the occasional road race) where your car is also daily driven, and they match well with a semi-stiff spring setup (about 8kg/6kg).

I also had the opportunity to drive a mildy modified '86 Corolla coupe (hachi-roku for you fans out there) with the same dampers, and I have to say I was very impressed. The car was ultra stable on the track, and it broke traction consistantly and smoothly. If an FC isn't your only car, you may want to look into getting them for all your rides!

Feel free to add in your knowledge. :)

KYBs are a great replacement. If money isn't an issue, get Koni adjustables.

If money really isn't an issue, get Tein.

I love my KYBs. They sit in their boxes like champs! LOL. Now I just need to install them. :P

It's hard for me to say. I'm not entirely happy with my suspension setup (kybs and K2RD coilovers), but it's mostly the fault of the coilovers. The rear mount rattles like crazy and allows a little loose travel of the strut, so it can't really do it's job properly. But from what I can tell of the shocks they're pretty good.
